Over the two months, I’ve become a one-woman Soul Cycle recruiter. Don’t believe me?

Follow me on Instagram @CaseyCulture to see for yourself.

The Beauty & Fashion team is now officially addicted to Soul Cycle.

It became OFFICIAL when we all hauled it to TriBeCa for a 7 am class BEFORE work today.

(realistically we’re just hoping to run into Ashley Olsen, Bradley Cooper, Jonah Hill, and Olivia Munn, ala Casey last week).

If you dare think Soul Cycle is a “girly” workout, I present you with exhibit A: Joel and I last weekend before his first class. (Let me add that Joel typically sprints laps around me during any sort of co-run.)

It’s been four days and he’s still limping.

Saturday night I will be dining on this cliff-side Lycabettus in Oia, Santorini.

There’s only one table per night.

Fact - the beaches in Greece are breathtaking.

Literally.

To get to this particular beach in Crete, you have to:

  • Drive up a steep mountain and imagine plummeting to your death (p.s. guard rails don’t exist here)
  • Park your car and put a rock behind the back tire to ensure it doesn’t fall off said mountain
  • Climb down a rocky hill/cliff.  The regular visitors came down wearing hiking boots.  Being clueless, we came down in flip flops.
  • Arrive at a stunning blue lagoon, dive in the water, jump off some cliffs, sit back and take it all in.

Three years ago I began working at a 20-person Social Media Marketing start-up, which evolved into a 120+ global company.

I always knew my next career step would be to depart the agency world to work in-house for a lifestyle brand. When the opportunity presented itself, the timing was too serendipitous to ignore.

And so, a couple weeks ago, I shared the news with my boss (who is also a dear friend) that after three tremendous years, it was time for me to leave Attention. And then I told my co-Associate Director, Meg, a truly great friend who I recently brought to Attention who has made each day at work funnier than the last.

And then we told the team.

There were tears. And more tears, many from me, mostly because I recognize how rare and lucky I have been to forge such a strong bond with my team, both the ladies who are still here and the ones who have moved on to new adventures.  This is not typical and they have set the bar high as I embark on my next endeavour.

Last night there was a farewell get-together where everyone shared their favorite “Casey Memory” and it quickly became hard to hold back the fits of laughter and avoid misty eyes with a group that has become so much more than “co-workers”.

In thinking back on my time at Attention, there’s one word to best describe my time here: priceless.

The amount I’ve learned - strategic planning, account management, budgeting, fancy words, how to deal with the craziest of clients (I’ve had my fair share): priceless.

The hilarious, laugh-out-loud moments that come with crazy clients: priceless.

The tough, pit-in-your-stomach moments that come with mean, condescending clients, that eventually teach you how to handle situations with grace….sometimes: priceless.

The brands who’s social media identity I’ve had the privilege to manage (Diane von Furstenberg, Lancome, Madewell, David Yurman + Bliss Spa to name a few): priceless.

The friendships I’ve gained from my Monday-Friday family: PRICELESS.

When considering a new venture, the thing I feared most was change - learning a new process, dealing with new personalities, understanding a new lifestyle. Fortunately, the fear is also exhilarating and I’m so excited to share my new venture with you.

Stay tuned!

So, where am I going next?

When I said my new gig was “serendipitous”, I wasn’t exaggerating.

One week after I took my first Soul Cycle class (I was sick of being the only one at dinner with friends who hadn’t been), I learned of the company’s social media and digital job opportunity.  Weeks went by and I became obsessed with the full body indoor cycling class (NOT spinning!), lifestyle and culture.  Not only did my body begin to look better, but I started to feel better.  Soul Cycle became my therapy of sorts and I finally understood why people are fanatical about it.

As someone who very rarely went to the gym or attended an exercise class (does cruising on my bike around the West Village count?), this was a sign. A big sign.

An even bigger sign? When they tweeted “Corporate staff meeting” along with an image of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. Done.

I am over the moon to join the Soul Cycle family as the company embarks on tremendous expansion and look forward to sharing my new adventures with you.

Learn more about the company in the September issue of Vanity Fair.

My career has always been about doing thing I love.

I used to be obsessed with the fashion and beauty industry.

So what did I do? I took a job in the field.

Several years later, evolving and digital media became a passion.

So what did I do? I segued into a job that combined it.

Fast forward to now.  While I enjoy fashion from a consumer perspective, the industry is no longer a passion. In fact, I’m fazed by it it as I quickly became burnt out working with your typical “fashion people”.  Of course not all fashion and beauty brands are like this, but I dealt with my fare share of negativity and needed an out.

So what did I do? I found (slash it serendipitously found me) a new job that focuses on lifestyle, something for which I currently LOVE!

The first day of my new job is Monday and guess what?  I cannot wait!

Fingers crossed for success!

With a couple days off between jobs, this week was dedicated to New York parent visits.

My Mom and Dad are so incredibly different, but I’m very close with both of them.  To get to spend with extra time with them during the week (which is usually impossible while working!) is so special.

Highlights from their visits included:

  • A Soul Cycle class with Dad. I sometimes barely make it through a class, so to see my father work it was super impressive!
  • A Greenwich Village Walking Tour, which was VERY interesting. There’s so much history in the neighborhood from artists, writers, social movements, etc! Find out more information for walking tours all over NYC by clicking here.
  • Lunch at Momofuku Noodle Bar - their Pork Buns are my favorite.
  • Lunch at Cafe Select in Soho, cocktails at Little Branch followed by dinner at Commere with Mom and her friend/former New Yorker, Rachel.
  • A stroll down the Highline.  For some reason, I only do this with visitors.  Note to self: start doing this more just because!

First day jitters! (Taken with Instagram)

Santorini - Part I

Three weeks ago, I traveled to Greece for a friend’s wedding.  Before the festivities in Crete, Joel and I spent a couple days on one of the most picturesque islands in the world, Santorini.

No matter where you look, the island enchants you with white cliffs, winding roads and the Aegean Sea as far as the eye can see.

We stayed in Oia on the northern tip of the island.  Our hotel’s cave-like setting was breathtaking, as were the views, especially when we’d open the doors to find breakfast waiting for us.

Highlights in Santorini included:

  • Lunch at Taverna Katina in Amoudi Bay. To say the seafood here was fresh would be an understatement - it was caught and grilled right in front of us! Amoudi Bay also has kitties roaming around, something that initially surprised us, but soon became second nature throughout our duration in Santorini.

  • Hiking from Amoudi Bay up to the cliffs of Oia. The steps are lined with donkeys and at each level the trail splits, leaving the direction of the adventure up to us.

  • Touring Santorini on an ATV. The island is only 20 miles long, but there’s no better way to discover each beach, town and view.

  • Beach hop. One of our favorites was Perissa on the eastern border.

  • Sunsets. Every day. Oia, Santorini is considered one of the top ten sunset views in the world, so much so that each time the sun hits the water, the crowd erupts in a round of applause.

  • Dinners overlooking the caldera. Most of my night photos didn’t show up and this photo certainly doesn’t do the scenery justice. Wow - just wow.

  • Getting lost. Making a wrong turn, discovering a small alley, taking a peek into an old store - all are worth it, especially at night.

Santorini - Part II

Without a doubt, the best thing we did in Santorini was to charter a catamaran for the day. We sailed around the Aegean Sea, making several unique stops, including Red Beach and sulfur springs.  The phenomenal crew whipped up a delicious lunch, provided interesting history (did you know that many Santorinian families used to own their own church in order to not pay taxes?) and of course, helped us capture the day.

The best part? We were joined by two of our friends who were also visiting Santorini before the Crete wedding.

Good sun, good food, good drink, good friends, GREAT views.

If I could, I’d repeat this day every day.

Crete - Part I

For the second half of our Greek adventure, Joel and I traveled south to Crete to meet up with our friends and celebrate one of my favorite couples, Dean and Sarah.

Leading up to the wedding, there was a visit to the ultimate blue lagoon.

Cliff jumping.

An accidental, terrifying car ride on a hiking trail in an effort to find the remote beach, Falasarna.

And sunsets by the pool.

When visiting a foreign country, its rude to not participate in traditional dancing.

That’s our excuse for partaking in this Crete dance lesson.

P.S. I loved every second of it!

The follow are key ingredients to an epic Greek wedding.

1) A stunning bride arriving in a horse and carriage to the ceremony in a historic town square surrounded by locals and guests from all over the world.

2) A charming date who can make you laugh, even in the most serious of moments.

3) Close friends, giddy with love, tying the knot.

4) Fans to beat the heat.

5) Raki, a Cretan signature liquor that was consumed like water.

6) Fireworks on the beach.

7) Traditional Greek dancing.

8) Toasts on the beach just before sunrise.

9) Breakfast at sunrise.

10) A walk home around 7:30 am.

Fellow New Yorkers - I implore you to get your behinds to Central Park this weekend and bask in the warm sun, crisp air and pre-Fall colors.

Take a cue from our gathering last weekend - throw on some shades and grab a sheet, baguette, prosciutto, wine, cheese, fruit and macarons. Don’t forget to wear layers to easily adjust to the changing temps (warm at noon, cooler at 4pm).

Add in a couple furry friends and you’re all set.

Ah - home, sweet home.

I may now be a New Yorker (5 years in counts, right?), but I’ll never shake my Baltimore roots.

“YOU can look far and wide, but you’ll never discover a stranger city with such extreme style,” John Waters once noted about his hometown. Maybe that’s why Baltimore’s trumpeted glass-and-steel Inner Harbor development, with its chain restaurants, neon-loud amusements and brand-name shopping, feels so counterintuitive as a symbol for the city. But walk in any direction and the city’s charm reasserts itself. Indeed, Baltimore’s best draws tend to be left-of-center: offbeat theater, grandly decrepit neighborhoods on the cusp of gentrification, a world-class museum devoted to outsider art and a dive-bar culture that must be one of the nation’s finest. via New York Times, 36 Hours in Baltimore

Blame it on a super busy summer, but Joel and I are finally getting into full wedding-planning mod….several months after we got engaged.  Oops!

However, the past couple months have allowed us to research, consider, re-consider, prioritize, re-prioritize, etc, and now, we have a fairly strong idea of how we’d like to say “I do!”

We’ll be visiting venues in Napa Valley in early October - high-five for wine country weddings! - and then diving into all the other wedding shenanigans.

One important task I’d like to cross-off the list ASAP during Autumn (my favorite time of year!) is an engagement photography session.  Jamie set the bar pretty high with the “At Home With” feature she did with us on the former Upper West Side apartment (including photo above).  And by pretty high, I mean out of this world.  She recommended another amazing photographer for us, but unfortunately, said photographer is now in the UK.

So, that’s where YOU come in - do you know of a great NYC-based photographer?  If so, shoot me an email at CaseyCulture@gmail.com.

Thank YOU!

I’m a happier person when I’m near water.  And I’m even happier when time near the water includes a sailboat, friends and prosecco.

If you’re looking for a fun Autumn activity, check out Tanzer Tours. Captain Ben takes you around the southern tip of Manhattan, passed Governors Island and straight up to Lady Liberty.

It’s a particularly beautiful sight at sunset.
